Buttermilk Biscuits


1/2 c. butter

4 c. all-purpose flour

2 T sugar

2 T baking powder

2 tsp. salt

2/3 c. buttermilk

Milk for glaze (optional)


Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Sift together dry ingredients.

Cut in butter.  Blend in buttermilk to form a soft dough, just until dough sticks together.  Shape into a circle and roll to 3/4″ thick.  Cut with a biscuit cutter or drinking glass.

Place on a baking sheet so they touch.

Brush with milk to brown.  Bake 30 minutes.  Serve immediately.
